So To Speak
The U.N.O. Gallery is pleased to present So To Speak, the M.F.A. thesis exhibition of H. Grace
Boyle. In unexpected ways, Boyle transforms marble, found objects and other materials into
quiet, multi-layered assemblages. Spanning the doleful to the comic, these enigmatic
sculptures explore the passage of time, both presence and absence, and the potential to find
humor even in the darkest moments. This suite of works fosters a sense of curiosity and coaxes
viewers to lose themselves in a world of wonder.
The exhibition will be on display from May 14 through June 4, 2023, with an opening reception
Saturday May 13, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Refreshments will be provided. The artist will discuss her work on Sunday, June 4 at 6:00 pm,
with a closing reception to follow. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00 - 5:00 pm.
Born, raised, and educated in New Orleans, Boyle’s preferred method of creating is sculpting,
with her favored material being marble. She currently teaches beginning and intermediate
sculpture at the University of New Orleans. In 2021, she was awarded the New Roads
Scholarship from the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Vermont. She has shown work at
The Front, Good Children Gallery, and the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, LA. She
has participated in ArtPrize and ArtFields competitions. Boyle has created three public
sculptures which are located in Kenner, LA.
