Mission & Vision
The University of New Orleans, School of the Arts Gallery on St Claude, is a singular aspect of the university among other institutions of higher education in the city; UNO is the only local university to maintain an off-campus art gallery. Situated in the St. Claude Arts District, it is in a unique position of community outreach to its neighborhood, as well as other institutions and organizations in the fields of the arts. In this light, it is an asset to the University, in its mission to advance “shared knowledge” and add to our region’s “culture and economy.”

As a non-profit academic resource, the gallery culturally enriches the metropolitan area with presentation of contemporary visual arts. It shows research, experimentation, and individual expression in an academic environment. It represents the visual arts at UNO to the city and to its peer institutions.

To meet this mission, the gallery hosts exhibitions of faculty work and dedicates part of the academic year to Master of Fine Arts thesis shows. It is a locus for alumni activity, including shows and curatorial efforts. Additionally, the gallery is the exhibition space for the Center Austria Exchange exposition, a product of more than a decade of collaboration with the University’s International Studies Innsbruck program. The gallery also provides space for UNO special events, including interdepartmental workshops, musical performances, readings of literary works, visiting artist lectures, and visual art exhibitions.
