The UNO St. Claude Gallery is excited to announce “The Thin Veil,” an exhibition by Jane Cassidy. Curated by Tony Campbell.

January 12th, 2019 - February 2nd, 2019.

Opening reception January 12th from 6-9 p.m.

Regarding her work, Cassidy states:

“The longer I practice, the more influenced I am by the landscape of my home in Ireland. For me, it is a landscape of ever changing experience, views and connections. I am consistently interested in recreating and portraying natural elements that excite me in my work.

Visually, I tend to focus upon events that I am drawn to such as the splendor of crepuscular rays, the comforting rhythm of lighthouses and the magnetism of the rhythm of the sea. For this I use projection, video, electronics and animation. The audio tends to focus on meditative deep swells, slow pulses and field recordings. I write my own electronic music, use surround sound, and often write acoustic music, including choir.

To bring these elements together I create large-scale, site-specific, light and sound installations that offer the viewer an immersive sensory experience. Music is written in tandem with the visuals so that both aspects move in synchrony, often implying a manner of synaesthesia to the viewer. My work is usually presented in a dark room or outdoors at night. Darkness creates a vacuum which enables the audience to become engulfed in light and sound.

I continue to push the manner in which my ideas can be brought to life so to consistently create new ways to engage the viewer and to challenge myself. My intention is to draw in a wide audience, regardless of previous art experience, in a comforting, playful and meditative atmosphere. Ultimately, we have all had a unique experience with light and sound and often need an escape. I try to reinvent the gallery and present something that gives us a hint of magic.”
